Honoring the Victims of the 1994
Genocide Against the Tutsi: A Day of Remembrance at RMS.
At Rwanda
Medical Supply (RMS), remembrance is not only a duty it is part of our
commitment to unity, dignity, and a foundation for building a more
compassionate Rwanda.
On May 16,
we came together at our headquarters to commemorate the victims of the 1994
Genocide against the Tutsi. This moment of reflection united our team in
remembrance and renewed our collective resolve to contribute to healing, peace,
and national reconstruction.
The
commemoration featured remembrance songs, a candle-lighting ceremony, heartfelt
testimonies, and reflections on Rwanda’s history. As a health-focused
organization, we recognize the role we play in fostering healing and preserving
the memory of those we lost.
Our Deputy
CEO, Diana Mutoni, emphasized our responsibility to remember and to help build
a future where such atrocities never happen again. “We value this moment of
reflection. It is our duty to honor the lives lost, support survivors, and
ensure such a tragedy never happens again,” she said.
We were
honored to host Mr. Theogene Kabagambire, Head of Ibuka in Gasabo District, who
encouraged continued remembrance and learning, reminding us that remembering is
essential for both survivors and future generations. His message underscored
the power of remembrance in uniting communities and fighting genocide ideology.
RPF
Commissioner Theogene Karinamaryo also offered valuable insights into Rwanda’s
history—from pre-colonial times through the Genocide and into the country’s
ongoing journey of resilience and reconciliation. His reflections reminded us
of the importance of standing against hatred in all its forms.
One of the
most moving parts of the day was a testimony from our colleague and survivor,
Alex Karanganwa. Sharing his personal journey of loss, survival, and hope, he
reminded us all of the strength found in resilience and the importance of never
forgetting.

RMS staff visit Kiziguro Genocide Memorial to honor the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and extend support to survivors

Extending Support Beyond Reflection
Our
commemoration activities extended beyond May 16. On June 6, a delegation of RMS
employees visited the Kiziguro Genocide Memorial in Gatsibo District. This
visit was not only to pay tribute to the victims but also to provide tangible
support for the memorial’s rehabilitation and ongoing maintenance. During this
visit, we made a financial contribution to assist in preserving the site as a
place of memory, dignity, and education.
In addition
to supporting the memorial, RMS extended its solidarity to four vulnerable
families in the Kiziguro community. Each family received a cow to improve their
livelihood and food security. To support water access and hygiene, we provided
each household with a 3,000-liter water tank. We also delivered animal mangers
to promote safe and efficient livestock care, along with continued veterinary
services to ensure the well-being of the animals.
This
initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to social responsibility,
resilience, and inclusive development. It is our way of honoring the past not
only through words but through actions that make a meaningful difference in the
lives of those still affected by the legacy of the Genocide.
At RMS,
remembrance is not just about looking back it is about shaping a future rooted
in compassion, solidarity, and shared progress for all Rwandans.
